Mice, while instilling horror to many a person, and fable has to even elephants, are only 3 to 7" and weigh less than an ounce. Hardly something that is going to drag you off into the wilderness and eat you alive. They only consume 1/10 of an ounce of food a day and need very little water if their food is moist. They are a popular pet, are incredible adaptable, and have the ability to live commensally with humans.
Well, trying my best to compromise, we set the Havahart traps and successfully caught and released a half a dozen little critters. As they ran off into the forest, I thought about the popular choices on the market; having the innocent creature be snapped in half, eat food only to feel sick and die, or be stuck on glue paper until it starves to death. It seemed to me the little extra work of capturing them and setting them free into the wilderness was a far better choice and one we could all happily live with.
