Since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we declared our belief in freedom and justice for all. Yes, written for the humans and as such, we must be humane. Our food chain must be handled in a humane way where we treat our animals with the respect that all living things deserve. So hats off to freedom ringers like Starbucks, Burger King and Whole Foods Market who are supporting the elimination of selling eggs from caged hens.
Cities should push for cooperative farming to help low-income people. Roof-top farming, keeping local chickens, communities gardens are ways to educate young people how to grow their own food, how to treat farm animals, and the best reward of all--how much better everything tastes when it is produced naturally. And I not only write it, I live it -- with 23 happy, free grazing chickens on our property.
Eating less, eating better is something everyone can benefit from. So here's to 2015 - Let's be a nation that believes in freedom--for everyone and everything.
