Things to consider when owning a parrot are:
Noise (they are noisy)
Mess (they love to fling their food all over)
Socialization (they need to be played with)
Lifespan (they can live 70+ years)
Compatibility (very often they are one person birds, so they may not be friendly, to others.)
But the most important thing to consider is where they come from. Today it was reported that a woman was smuggling over 130 African Grays from the Dominican Republic to Uganda, a drop off point for export to European and Asian countries. Many of these birds were in critical condition when found. Lucky for them they will be nursed back to health and released to the wild. Smuggling is increasing because these birds fetch $300 to $700 in the resale market. But the real price? Their status is currently near threatened and if the smuggling continues they will become endangered.
So if you are buying a bird, make sure you know its origin and don't buy any animals that have been smuggled here illegally.
